We invest large amounts of time, energy and resources to be able to influence on the human to human level, and rightly so, because it is upon that level which we are measured for our effectiveness. I investigate my own life and realize that that level of influence has lacked in so many area, because of my own selfishness and pride of wanting to be someone or like someone else.

Leadership is more about another level of influence than just the human to human, and that level is the human to the divine. Influence with God is the true measure of a leader. The scale of measurement is so different than the scale of the human to human level. The measure of success of the human to divine level of influence is based more upon humility, willingness, generosity, obedience, faith and love.

Humble leadership is where I desire to be in my own life. A leader who is seen as one who breaths of the humility of Jesus Christ or who has the willingness to go and give of myself like Jesus is a passion which is continually present within me. Oh to be generous and obedient. To be able to give freely of myself to others, as they need me, and not if it is easy for me my schedule or even financially beneficial. I long for the time and the day when faith and love are not just core values on a piece of paper, rather, they are the cornerstones of what describes me as a person who loves God.

We can never take away the importance of human to human influence, because it is through that level of influence which we measure the reality of the depth of the human to divine influence. What we want to to, however, it to invest a larger portion of time, energy and resources in the later in order to become those humble leaders we have been called to be.

Humble leadership is not weakness, rather it is strength and power. Jesus Christ was and is a very strong and powerful person. Not only for what He suffered, but how He suffered and why He suffered. He paid with His life, through humility, for our own human weaknesses, our sins. That is the strength and the power of true humility. It was not about what He could gain, although He did gain the name above all others. It was about obeying His Heavenly Father and giving freely of Himself.

Let us reevaluate our measure of influence. The measure of a leader is not the quality of book he or she can write, rather, what is being written upon his or her heart. It is not so much, how many followers one has, rather how he or she follows God. True humility in leadership is that which is honestly concerned about the well-being of others and seeks to see others succeed. Are you or I at that level of leadership? The answer is up to you.
